Multiple modes on one platform
A new version of Simoco two-way radios has been released. Designed to meet the needs of global enterprise users, Xmode provides multiple analogue and digital operating modes from a single radio platform.
Simoco Xmode terminals, SRP9100 portable and SRM9000 mobile, support P25 trunked and conventional operating modes in addition to the existing PMR and MPT1327 operating modes. AES and DES secure digital encryption, GPS tracking and mobile data are also supported in both trunked and conventional digital modes. Field performance is further enhanced by an intelligent voting algorithm, which ensures optimum receiver performance in low signal areas.
The Xmode is a cost-effective terminal for users, who are considering a move to P25 in the future as the various operating modes can be added on step by step without replacing the terminals. This flexibility has been put to great use by Public Safety organizations in Australia and overseas who need to temporarily extend the footprint of their existing wide-area radio networks to a local-area system stemming from their vehicle. |

ComGroup Australia gets the vote in Papua New Guinea
March 2007: ComGroup Australia has been awarded a contract for a major upgrade to the Royal Papua New Guinea Police Constabulary two-way radio system. The technology will be used to support command and control operations for the upcoming national elections.
The project involves the supply of hand held, mobile and portable radios with an extensive network of fixed, mobile and portable repeater stations. A package of training and support services has also been supplied to ensure a strong level of technical independence.
The system has been designed for rapid deployment into provincial areas and regions as required by the operational needs. Director of Communications Chief Inspector Mike D Corren stated that: “We are keen to ensure the elections will be conducted in a timely and proper manner. This technology will ensure we are equipped to conduct our operations as efficiently and effectively as possible”.
Field tests in the chosen frequency bands have recorded excellent performance in very rugged and diverse terrain. Communications Engineer Mr Win Jipris was involved in the selection process for a technology partner. “We searched extensively for a supplier who could meet our technology requirements and be able to provide the training and support that we need to gain our own in-house skills. The Simoco radios supplied by ComGroup have proven themselves to operate in our very demanding conditions while being extremely flexible with many programmable options that we can bring on line as required. We also found the ability to convert mobiles to cross-band or in-band vehicle repeaters as being very useful”, he said.
All terminal equipment has been supplied as “P25 Ready” so that the digital operation on the APCO P25 digital standard can be deployed in future.
Comgroup Australia Chief Executive Officer Mr Tom Jonhammar has followed the project closely since its inception. “We are delighted that RPNGC have chosen us for such an important project. The recent field trials have vindicated their decision and we are looking forward to working closely with them to support their future needs”. |
